We expect also to have the shops here in which the different companies will manufacture their machinery for their mountain roads. And, not only do we count upon the different railroad shops being located here, in order to have the advantage of our waterpower, iron and coal, but we hope to have blast furnaces, rolling mills, and every description of iron works, in addition to the smelters, which treat the.ores from the great Custer county mining region, and from that immense field of precious metals once known as the "Southern Mines," but now.called the "Leadville country." But this is not about railroads, and is spoken of in another place in this book. For the present, suffice it to say, that our prospects for becoming an important railroad and manufacturing point are second to none in the State; in fact, are very flattering, and almost inevitable. The railroad wars which have been so terrifically waged in our vicinity, without a drop of blood being spilt, will soon come to an end. In October ihej come to the jumping-off place. The U. S. District Court will settle all difficulties between the two antagonistic roads, and then we will know by what train we will go West.
