General measures--Patient should fast for two or three days, drinking plenty of water; for variety vichy water and ginger ale may be used. Food should consist of milk, and a limited quantity of ice cream, fruits and vegetables. Jaundice--Is found in nearly all affections of the liver. After giving attention to the primary condition, the following remedies may be studied: Mercurius Dulcis 1 x, to increase the biliary secretion; is valuable in catarrhal conditions of the gall bladder and ducts; thickly coated tongue, clay colored stools. Iris vers.--y2 drop doses of the tincture is a splendid hepatic stimulant, bilious sick headache beginning with a blur before the eyes. Catarrhal jaundice. Nux vom. 2 x--Jaundice from errors in diet accompanied with chronic constipation, particularly useful in persons of sedentary habits. Bear in mind always that nux vomica is the "lazy man's remedy." General measures--Diet should be restricted; the best diet is skimmed milk. Plenty of water should be given. Colon flushing should be employed to remove debris. Keep the skin active by warm baths, every night. ECLECTIC Biliousness--Jaundice--In children ten grains of sodium phosphate every two hours. In adults one-fortieth of a grain of podophyllin four times a day, then exact attention to the condition of the stomach as it is found in the individual patient. CIRRHOSIS OF THE LIVER. REGULAR Symptoms--Cirrhosis obstructs the portal circulation, hence the symptoms are those of dyspepsia and constipation, frequently followed by slight hemorrhage from some part of the digestive tract, muddy complexion.
