La noticia del fatal suceso llegó en breve al campamento de Toledo, y sem bró en él la consternacion. Almondhir habia sido hombre duro y cruel, pero vi goroso y esforzado en la guerra, Y fué generalmente llorado por sus compañeros: todos los Muslimes que estaban en aquel cerco habian seguido sus banderas, ha bian sido testigos de sus hazañas, y le habian visto muchas veces desde su pri mera juventud sufrir las fatigas de la guerra con alegría, valor y constancia inal tarables. En ningun peligro ni ocasion se vió mudado su semblante: era en ex tremo frugal: en sus vestidos, armas y mantenimiento no se diferenciaba de los otros caudillos inferiores: su pabellón no era mas grande y precioso y solo por la bandera se distinguia de los demás Su hermano Abdallah, que mandaba el cerco dió sus órdenes a los walies para continuarle, y partió a Córdoba acom pañado de la caballería de su guardia.
