Jim was born in rural Floridain the mid-thirties. After serving in the infantry in Korea, he graduated fromthe University of Florida College ofEngineering. He first retired from professional engineering in 1985, but hastwice been enticed to return to the work force.¿¿ He retired for the third, and last, time in October, 2001, butis still active on special projects. He and his wife, Jean, travel extensively,and frequently stay in private homes.¿ Jim, using his laptop, takes notes to usein pursuit of his avocation - writing.Jim remains active in hiscommunity. He has served with many community organizations, most notably the Sarasota Education Foundation. He is anactive Rotarian, www.rotary6960.org, http://sarasotarotary.org is a PaulHarris Fellow several times over, has recently completed a Rotary project inHaiti, and will be the Governor for Rotary District 6960 in the Rotary Year2003-2004. A minimum of 25percent of the profit from Jim'sbooks goes to Rotary projects localand International, the Education Foundation of Sarasota County,North United Methodist Church, andthe University of Florida. A minimumof 25% of the profits from Sins of Pearlwill be used for the Caribbean Initiative, with special emphasis on projects inHaiti and the Dominican Republic.
