Reseña del editor:
Maite Burns is the adored, pretty daughter of a U.S. Army brigadier general and the Filipino woman he married while stationed in the Philippines. There, everyone admired her "exotic" looks and she learned to use this to her advantage. Her father's retirement and their move to California changed everything. Pretty girls were in abundance and she lacked the musical, athletic and intellectual skills that could make her school and social life less challenging. To please her parents and compete for the praise they give her perfect accountant brother, she enters a local junior college, but drops out to marry the love of her life. He's on a fast track to become the next whiz-bang software developer for some high-tech company, but living in the Silicon Valley requires her to find work suitable enough to support them. Maite's never worked for pay a day in her life. She has no marketable skills. She fights never-ending fears of self-doubt, anxiety, rejection, inadequacy, hopelessness and failure. But thanks to grit and guts, she's hired as an administrative assistant temp. Through endless trials and tribulations and recurring fears of failure over the next fifteen years, she rises through the ranks and accomplishes her goals while dealing with the vagaries of five unique, demanding bosses and their extensive staffs. This, while also tackling the challenges of raising three sons with Nate, who's still the love of her life. Any woman who holds a job knows the phrase "working mother" is redundant. Maite struggles with shyness, insecurity, career angst, and jealousy of peers, but never stops upgrading her education or job skills to remain completive and needed in the national economic downturns. Her ability to juggle seemingly endless tasks, meet deadlines, and offer assistance beyond her job description earn her points and promotions. She draws strength and inspiration from the words of successful women, which she tapes to the wall directly
