Reseña del editor:
You do not want to train with me. No, really. You don’t. Believe me, even I don’t want to train with me. You’re too old to be working out like this. Hell, I’m too old to be working out like this, and neither of us was ever young enough to train this way. I’ve gone off the deep end. Just listen to what people say about fitness... “Too old to run long.” “Too old to swim hard.” “Too old to lift heavy.” “Too old to... “ Reps. Repetitions. It’s the key to most sports. Practice makes perfect (or at least a little better). But sometimes repetions become just... boring. Christmas music in the mall. Political speeches. And “You can’t fight Father Time.” Repeat it often enough, and people will start to listen. Keep repeating, and they’ll start to believe. What starts as an excuse becomes a credo to live by. And so it is with fitness. “You’re too old to...” becomes “I’m too old to”. Even at sixty. Even at fifty. Even at forty. Even at thirty. It need not be so. Maintaining a high level of fitness is possible. It’s possible in your twenties, thirties, forties, and fifties. If marathon or bicycle time trials are any measure, it’s possible into the sixth and seventh decades, and beyond. In fact, I realized after my last marathon that, if I work hard, keep hitting the same finishing time for the next 25 years or so, I might even get into world record territory – for octogenarian marathoners! You’re too old to... But we see that it’s not true with our own eyes every day. From the Walt Stacks and Cory Eversons of the world, from the greying (and silver-haired) guys and gals who run, swim, bike, lift, row, and repeat, we see proof on a daily basis that it is possible. And that’s what this book is about. My goal here is to give you perspective on the path that I’ve been following to fitness for over three decades. You can’t use this book to get ripped in a week or a month. My goal for over 30 years has been to get and stay ultra-fit. I think I’m doing okay, and hopefully, you’ll find some useful hints here as well. Love to hear from you. By the time this book is out, I may even have figured out how to use facebook or set up a website! Val Catanzarite, San Diego, 2011
