Reseña del editor:
Is America a Good Place for Children? An in-depth look at the serious threats to the well-being of children in America. Child abuse, child pornography, child sex trafficking and child prostitution are addressed statistically and presented graphically in a number real life incident reports from the media. The book traces the status and valuation of children from ancient times to a growing sentiment in America that children are more trouble than they are worth. The gifts children can provide to society are explored in great detail but many indications are that they are forced to grow up too soon due to being exposed to adult concepts far earlier than they are ready to understand. In the process, childlike purity, innocence, dependence, a sense of wonder, imagination and love are eroded by tribal conditioning. On balance the author reveals the overlooked secret that America is a very dangerous place for children due to violence, sexual exploitation and moral depravity compared to other "developed" countries. Readers may be surprised to learn how America ranks with other developed countries in the number of homeless children, the poverty rate among children and number of pre-term birth defects plus in other measures of well-being. The author, a grandfather with thirteen grandchildren, and a retired psychotherapist, lays out action steps that parents, grandparents and others can take to confront the sources of danger to the children. The author recommends supporting one or more of the listed legal advocacy organizations and covering children with prayers and blessings for their protection. Finally, he emphasizes the importance of spending quality time guiding and monitoring children concerning the specific risks and dangers of sexting and on-line predators. A list of specific guidelines is presented for use.
