Reseña del editor:
Nanna (or How to Eat an Elephant) tells the story of two young men; one poor and black from the mountains of Appalachia and the other wealthy and white from a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who, through a series of events, become roommates in college. The story describes, in two very different ways, how their lives, after a tragedy, impacted a remote Appalachian community in West Virginia founded by runaway slaves back in the mid 1800?s. The book is primarily fiction, but based upon the true missionary activities of a Baptist Church in Pennsylvania that changed the lives of the descendants of the founders forever. This small church, located about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, PA has, in the past 35 years, participated in missionary trips to Philadelphia, Ohio, Latin America, and eight trips to West Virginia. Also in that time, they supported, with prayers and money, the author?s many trips to Mexico, Haiti, Zaire, Latin America, and Thailand. "Nanna (or How to Eat an Elephant)" is the second book by this author. In his first book, "Missionary Memories", the author recounts many stories of his personal medical missionary experiences in Third World countries while Nanna focuses on the missionary activities of his home church in Appalachia using some creative methods used overseas. Both books are a creative mixture of fact and fiction which conclude with unexpected life lessons.
