When I awoke, my whole body ached and my muscles burned, like I’d just done a marathon game of twister for the last thirty-six hours straight. I tried to shout for help, tried to roll over, but found myself unable to move. Something rubbery was pressed into my mouth, and I could feel straps digging into my wrists and ankles, pulling my limbs taut and splaying me wide.

“I can’t believe you didn’t remember me,” the redhead said from beside me. She leaned in over my face, peering down at me and giving me a scornful little shake of her head. “We hooked up about six months ago. You never called me back.”

She reached out and grabbed me jaw, and I could just barely make out that something large was stuffed into my mouth and strapped around my head, stretching my jaw apart rather uncomfortably. I tried to speak, but it came out muffled. Higher pitched, too.

“Twice, actually. I ran into you about three months ago, and you didn’t remember me then,” she said. “Didn’t even remember my name. Andrea. It’s Andrea.”

Andrea leaned in close until her lips were nearly brushing my ear. “I didn’t think this would work. There was more in that drink than a sedative, Jake. Something that took me a lot to get ahold of.
