Reseña del editor:
This is a true story about a relationship between two unique people. Their romance began in high school in the Twenties, but it wasn't typical. Phoebe and Earl is at once a sport story, a love story, and a tragedy. Earl Marple was a boxer, both as an amateur, and a professional. He was highly regarded as a fighter that fights, and a huge drawing card. All of that is reflected in the story. Phoebe Kinney was a multi-talented individual with a sense of style, and a zest for life. She was a “liberated” woman before anyone labeled women as such, and life in the Twenties was a perfect setting for her in her youth. She was the quintessential “flapper girl.” Phoebe and Earl were an unlikely couple. He was a little rough around the edges; she was glamorous, and refined. The fact that some aspects of this story have been fictionalized does not mean that the crux of the relationship isn’t truly represented, and the essence of the couple in their glory, as well as the vicissitudes of their lives, has been captured, and at times it was raw.
