Biografía del autor:
Cherie Bacon Byrne was born and reared on Dublin city’s north side. Her previous working background prior to having her third baby, Raven, was predominantly within social care. Cherie worked for six years in various social care settings, mostly as a high support youth worker. She worked with young people in residential care units and young persons in out-of-home placements and was highly respected amongst her peers. She was also a youth advocate trainer on the west coast of Ireland. Cherie soon found her niche was working with young mothers and their babies. Mentoring her clients, guiding them in caring for their babies, and advising them on how to manage everyday living as new mums was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for her. In addition, Cherie worked in mother and baby units and did outreach work. She also conducted supervised access visits with clients and their families. In 2011 she married her husband Lee and they decided to have a baby together. Cherie was, at that time, already a mother of two teenage children. On the 20th of November 2012, Raven Juliet Bacon Byrne came into their lives and the mayhem began. The insatiable screams due to Raven’s pain rang out in their home for many months to follow. Frustration and despair were the everyday reality of her family. Cherie describes this time in her life to resembling hell on earth. The struggle to find a diagnosis and to be able to ease the obvious pain Raven was in was well and truly under way. The lack of understanding of the constant distress and daily challenges from not only the professionals involved in Ravens early years, but also from family and friends, was a very isolating experience. The complete lack of understanding, formal knowledge or support, regarding the disease itself and the traumatic impact it had on Cherie and her family, inspired her to write her book The Reflux Bible. The book is an attempt to share the knowledge gained and the war fought to find a source of information and explanation as to why their baby was in such distress from the beginning. Hopefully it will inform and support other mothers and families struggling with this illness and offer some hope that help can be found and that babies will enjoy a normal life.
