George Frederick Allison (1888-1957) was Arsenal's second longest-serving manager (after Wenger), serving the club from 1934 to 1947, during which time they won the League Championship twice (1934-35, 1937-38) and the FA Cup (1935-36). He famously appeared as himself in a speaking role in the 1939 film The Arsenal Stadium Mystery which was set at Highbury. One of his lines, uttered at half-time, was: "It's one-nil to the Arsenal. That's the way we like it.", a line which was oddly prescient given the team's record of 1-0 scorelines in later decades. Small 8vo. 240pp. Text illustrations. Pictorial paper covered boards.
