In case of desertion or casualty resulting in the loss of one or more of the seamen, the master must [.]". 7 1/2 x 10 3/4", 19pp. Paperclipped to front is a smaller sheet of stationary with printed letterhead: United States Senate, Committee On Commerce. Mr. [in ink]: Theodore E Burton. #252 has been blue penciled on front of Act; sidestapled, some slight signs of age, but overall, a well preserved copy of what is generally a fragile ( & often, ephemeral ) type of item. Signed by Peter M. Rigg, a copy probably belonging to Theodore E. Burton (1851-1929): "was a recognized authority on river and harbor improvements and economic, monetary, and banking legislation. As a Republican, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1889-91, 1895-1909, and 1921-28 and was U.S. senator from Ohio from 1909-15 and from 1928 until his death. Born in Jefferson, Ohio. (Encyclopedia of Cleveland History, 1987; p. 139-140.). Scarce item legal/nautical item from the year of the Titanic disaster, 1912.
