Author's presentation copy of this concise history on Dryburgh, a lovely work written by David Erskine, who had great ties to the village and the Abbey. The second edition of this very scarce work.Signed by the author to the title, 'To James Hood in Dryburgh as a mark of the author's kind regards, David Erskine, May 18 1837'.James Hood is thanked in the preface for providing Erskine information of Dryburgh, description him as "80 years of age - the old man of the hill".A concise exploration of the annals and antiquities of Dryburgh, a village in the Borders of Scotland.Most notably Dryburgh is known for its ruined Abbey, an impressive architectural feat which was ruined in 1544.The author of this work, David Erskine, bought the land of the ruined Abbey in 1786, his ancestors being Commendators of Dryburgh. Walter Scott and Douglas Haig are both buried in the grounds. In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, leather is rubbed, heavier to the spine and joints. Small chip to the spine label. Only a few light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots. Title page and final leaf of text are restored by a prior owner, with marginal loss to the text, mostly to the publisher's information. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 876P40
