"Registered & payable" receipt, narrow oblong 8vo, signed, "Ro. Howard." Sir Robert Howard fought on the Royalist side during the English Civil war, and rose to prominence during the restoration. He served as Secretary to the Treasury in 1671, auditor of the Exchequer in 1673 and after participating in William of Orange becoming King of England in 1689 was appointed to the Privy Council.
