Fine, Autograph letter signed, 1 p. April 19, 1901. Hayden Carruth to S.B. Stabler. This letter relates to a feature he edited for Harper¿s Monthly Magazine, ¿Editor¿s Drawer,¿ from about 1894 to 1921. It featured humorous stories and anecdotes. The letter, dated ¿19 of April, 1901¿ reads as follows: ¿My Dear Miss Stabler: Thank you very much for letting me see these, but somehow they don¿t seem to be just what ¿the Drawer¿ can use. Your other little anecdote is coming in the June number. As ever. Sincerely. Hayden Carruth.¿ Handwritten on Harper & Brothers letterhead, from ¿Editorial Rooms.¿ Historical Context: Hayden Carruth (originally Fred Hayden Carruth) (1862-1932) was an American newspaper publisher, journalist, humorist, and author of juvenile fiction. After working for various weekly newspapers in the Midwest, he moved to New York City where he was an editor at the New York Tribune, Harper's Monthly Magazine and the Woman's Home Companion.
