American stage and film actor renowned as Cyrano de Bergerac and for Shakespearian roles; his films include "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939), "The Adventures of Mark Twain" (1944), "All About Eve" (1950), "Sabrina" (1954) and "The Prodigal" (1955). ALS, 1p, 8½" X 11", St. Louis, MO, 1922 March 4. Addressed to Mrs. Byrd Raikes Fuqua, a California dude ranch owner. Very good. On pale grey "Tour of / Walter Hampden / SEASON of 1921-22" letterhead, Hampden thanks as admirer, adding, "I feel quite satisfied with the progress we have made on our first appearances in St. Louis and shall return again and again."
