On ornate embossed "Office of the Commissioner, / United States Patent Office, / Washington, D.C." letterhead, Moore thanks the secretary of The Cosmos Club (the elite DC social club founded in 1878): "I wish to express, through you, to the Cosmos Club my very sincere appreciation of the Club's action in electing me to become one of its members.
