Wrappers, in parchment dustwrapper gilt. Dustwrapper a little marked and chipped, front free endpaper a little marked. Presentation inscription from one of the contributors, "Hilda Grierson from J.J. Beresford, December 30th 1912 [but 1911?]"; loosely inserted, facing p.61 ("She doth but sleep; she will awake anon . . .", by J. Jervis Beresford), a picture postcard ("Easton Grey Rectory") from J.J. Beresford to "Miss Hilda Grierson" (recte Mrs Roland Harrisson), "With all Good Wishes for the New Year, 1912. 'Gaudete in Domino semper.'" The Revd John Jervis Beresford (1853-1916), a prolific littérateur but totally blind from infancy, was Rector of Easton Grey from 1898 until his death. His rectory was in the grounds of Easton Grey House, home to Margot Asquith's half-sister Lucy Graham Smith; H.H. Asquith read the lesson when he came to stay. It was at the Graham Smiths' that Hilda Harrisson first met Asquith (she was asked to make up a fourth at bridge), and they became firm friends and lifelong correspondents.
