The Book of Indian Birds by Salim Ali had been the bible for Indian Ornithologists ever since it was first published in the early 1940s. His works were published by Oxford University Press in India and the Bombay Natural History Society. In 1958 R.A. Stewart was appointed as the manager of Oxford University Press (OUP) in Madras where he spent the rest of his life editing books and studying birds in the field. He became very good friends with Salim Ali, and encouraged him to compile a 10 volume illustrated works covering birds of India and the neighbouring areas. This volume comes with 64 plates in color depicting 256 species 3 i line and 22 half tones as well as colored end maps. This volume was from Stewart Melluish s personal library- he died in 2008. Very good volume with price unclipped dustjacket protected in mylar. A rare collectors item to remember Salim Ali and Stewart Melluish, signed by both in a single volume.
