This is the 1978 facsimile reprint published by Friends of the Moody Texas Ranger Library. The original was published in 1932 and is quite scarce. James Greer edited and compiled the original, it was published after Barry died. Greer compiled the book from Barry's incomplete manuscript, diary, and letters. According to Jenkins this is the best memoir of a Texas Ranger who served during the mid-19th century. Webb called it "an excellent account." BTB#11. Barry came to Texas in 1845 from North Carolina and soon joined the Rangers serving under Jack Hays. He was wounded in the Mexican War serving under Hays and became a pioneer on the Texas frontier after the war. Greer earned the very first PhD in History ever awarded by the University of Texas. He was in his 80s when he signed this book in 1978. Slight slant to spine. Moderate edge wear. Bumps on bottom corners. Tiny bumps on spine ends. Shallow dent on tail edge of front board. Foxing and light soiling to edges of pages. Text is clean. Dust jacket has normal edge and shelf wear. Chips and tears on corners, spine ends, and along head edges. 1-inch tear with 1/2-inch chip on spine head. Creases along head edges. Small rough tears on fore-edge of front cover.
