Size of printed card: 8 1/4 in. x 5 7/8 in., featuring a Groth Christmas drawing, with Mary, Joseph carrying the baby Jesus, and donkey, the figures are in 19th century dress. No printed date or artist's signature on the card, but Groth has added his signature in dark brown ink in the lower left of the image: John Groth; in an envelope with a 22 cent U.S. stamp, postmarked: New York 18 Dec 1985; with printed address on back: JOHN GROTH Suite 1630 12 East 86th Strret New York, N. Y. 10028, and hand addressed on front to: Mrs. & Mr. Willliam Targ 101 West 12 Street New York, N.Y.; with a handwritten & signed, holiday message on the back of the card: "Dear Roz and Bill, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with Love, [signed] John. Bill it was great of you to be at the Opening! Roz-haven't been able, as yet to think through the book Bill mentioned-have to consult strength, time left (!), and finances-also the Logistics involved." Envelope has been carefully slit open along the top edge, envelope surface shows other stampings, numbering by post office.
