147 Pages. The author has signed the title page. This plastic comb-bound book, except the four preface pages, is printed on one side only and on stiff card stock. This is the story of a good cook with no restaurant experience learning everything the hard way. They bought the restaurant from the previous owner in 1965 and three years later, thoroughly exhausted and having made every mistake possible sold it. But two years later they had to take it back. The restaurant closed shortly after this revised edition was published. The second time around proved to be more successful, however it is now closed. There are more than 300 recipe cards, three to every page. For those who like to keep the most-used recipes in a card file, this book is designed to be cut into 3x5 cards. The author recommends covering both sides with clear contract paper to keep the cards clean. At first when customers would ask the author for the recipes she used for cooking at Yorkies she felt a natural reluctance to give them and instead often replied that they were secret. She realized that sharing the recipes could never hurt and she gave the most familiar ones away. But it was impossible to fill all the requests and still run the restaurant so the idea of a recipe book germinated. The waitresses started saying that Betty will write a cookbook next winter. To her astonishment they began taking orders and in a short while she was committed to putting out a recipe book. It is a recipe book and not a cookbook. In no way does it attempt to be a complete cookbook. It is just a very special collection of recipes collected from a family of good cooks and many very generous friends. It was a sad day for Camden when Yorkies closed. It was clearly the most popular in the area and still missed greatly. It is a part of Camden Maine's history and fondly remembered by locals.
