With an original leaf from the first edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz printed in Chicago in 1900. Designed and printed by Peter Routledge Koch. The typeface for the book is modeled after the Bancroft Library's copy of De Evangelica Praeparatione, printed by Nicholas Jenson in Venice,1470. This is a subtle nod to Peter Hanff, the author, as he is the Deputy Director of the Bancroft Library at US Berkeley, as well as the former president of the International Wizard of Oz club. Includes A Bookbinder's Analysis of the First Edition of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by Michael CO. Riley in a softcover volume. Both in nice slipcase. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 081938

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Accompanying title by Michael O. Riley. 2 volumes. First edition. One of 300 copies designed and printed letterpress by Peter Rutledge Koch. Quarto. 141 + 47pp. Over 77 color illustrations. Original leaf tipped-in. Errata slip. Half silk cloth, pictorial boards; Riley's work in stiff wrappers. Housed in publisher's dark brown silk cloth slipcase. A very fine set. Includes an original leaf from the first edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900. Hanff's important work provides an analysis of "America's most famous fantasy" and explores some of the particular facts and circumstances that helped establish Baum's work as an American classic. This work is considered a pioneering study of printing and publishing on the prairies, and an excellent study of the influence of the Arts & Crafts movement in Chicago on American book design. The companion volume is a scholarly study of the production of the first edition of this children's classic. Book. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 7432
