Publisher's turquoise cloth, with the spine lettered in gilt and top edge gilt (dampstaining at the bottom, foxing to free leaves and some internal foxing, the binding is rubbed at the extremities). Inscribed in blue ink "From the author" on the half-title. These are the Sandars Lectures from 1927, divided into two chapters: "The Early Bindings: Before 1300" and "The Gothic Bindings: c. 1450-1500."
