Limited edtion of 25 copies for private ciruclation, as a mark of respect for a few surgeons. 2 vols.: xi, 407; vii, 409-960 p. 25 cm. 1353 illustrations, mainly b&w with a few in colour. Half leather with blue cloth. Vol. I has chip from spine head, upper front hinge cracking, cracking inside at half title. . Both volumes inscribed by the author to his friend Bob Harris, "Chair of Orthopaedics of Toronto." Handwritten note to Harris in each volume, pasted to a front endpaper in volume II. Sir Reginald Watson-Jones (1902-72) was orthopaedic surgeon to King George VI and director of orthopaedics at The London Hospital. Fractures and Joint Injuries, which first appeared in 1940, was reprinted and translated many times, the seventh edition appearing in 2009. Its clear and accessible language meant that it became a valued guidebook to field surgeons in World War II. The author notes in his preface that war stimulates progress, particularly in surgery.
