Octavo, red cloth lettered in black; slightly soiled. First edition, first printing. A presentation copy, inscribed: "Lois Kellogg Jessup, with regards and affection, Henry D. Sedgwick," on the front endpaper; with Jessup's notes on the rear pastedown. Lois Jessup worked tirelessly for the American Friends Service Committee, the U.S. Children's Bureau (preparing reports on children in Europe during Second World War, and the United Nations, advocating for women's rights around the world. She married Philip C. Jessup, a judge on the International Court of Justice and veteran U. S. diplomat, credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. The Jessups lived in northwestern Connecticut, a short distance from Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where Sedgwick resided. A handsome copy with a distinguished provenance.
