Faint binding wear, else internally fine. Tight, handsome later printing with bright giltstamping of this historical novel -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a 3½" X 2¼" slip on which the author boldly pens in his attractive script "Autograph of / Edwd. Eggleston / 1878." When first published in 1887, the title read "The Graysons: A Story of Illinois." Eggleston (1837-1902) was one of Indiana's greatest writers, publishing many novels, juvenile tales and histories in the latter 19th century. Bookplate on front pastedown of Byron Nathan McKinstry (1872-1944), businessman of Kankakee, Illinois whose namesake father's "The California Gold Rush Overland Diary of Byron N.
