Henry Igglesden, Ashford, 1871-1874, Two Volumes in Three, in 3, First Edition. SIGNED dedication to a MW Hayward with the author s good wishes. March 6th 1871 . Titles in red and black, plates and 6 folding maps (a number coloured in outline); original green pebble-grain cloth boards framed in black, upper boards individually blocked and captioned in gilt, gilt backs, dark endpapers, uncut, hinges slightly loose (but bindings wholly sound), rubbed otherwise a good, bright, clean set. Six folding maps, wood engravings in text. 2 vols in 3. Publisher's green cloth embossed and gilt over bevelled boards. Some wear to spines and minor tears to a few maps, without loss. Otherwise a very good set. The Author enjoyed unrivalled access to relevant manorial and estate archives and his work remains particularly useful. Vol I 1871, xvi, 462pp, tree fold out maps; Vol II 1874, xii, 424pp, two fold out maps; Vol III [4], 425-935, [1]pp, single fold out map. Approximately 7 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine fair to good condition gilt titles, volume numbers and publisher details, black blind stamped decoration, rubbed and worn with some tears to the top of volume III, wear to the cloth. Joints fair to good condition sound, worn to the cloth with fraying to the front joint of Vol II and rear joint of Vol III. Corners fair to good condition bumped and worn. Boards fair to good condition gilt decoration to the front boards and black blind stamped decorations to both boards. Page edges fair to good condition darkened to the top, some pages / map edges standing proud. See above and photos. Internally Hinges fair to good condition paper cracked to the rear hinge of Vol II Part I, and both hinges of Part II. Paste downs good condition dark brown, author s signed dedication to the front paste down of Vol I pasted in on a slip of paper. End papers good condition dark brown. Title good condition in red and black, tanned and with minor marks and foxing. Pages good condition minor marks and foxing, tanned, repair to large tears to two of the three maps in Vol I, repair to large tears at the join to the volume, to both maps in Vol II Part I, , closed tear to the map in Part II.
