The 3rd Viscount Soulbury was a British aristocrat and career diplomat whose lengthy service included acting as British High Commissioner to Cyprus (1969-71), ambassador to Iran (1971-73) and to the United States (1974-77) and governor of Bermuda (1977-80). IPS, 5" X 7", n.p., 9 March 1977. Near fine. Handsome half-length formal portrait in suit and tie, boldly inscribed and signed in black fineline at upper right: "For [ -- ] / Peter Ramsbotham / (British Ambassador) / March 9 1977."
