Mainstream of America Series Copyright date is 1956. Does not state first edition. The book is bound in fine cloth with title in gilt on the front cover. Endpapers illustrated with maps of California and Nevada. Corners are sharp and spine caps are softened. The front hinge is cracking, but the binding is sound. Inscribed by the author and dated "Beverly Hills, March 1964" on the half title page. Otherwise, pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The price-clipped dust jacket is in fair condition with a 1.5" closed tear on the fore-edge of the spine panel near the heel, large chip off the top edge of the back panel and and smaller tears and chips on all edges.
