Unique book hand assembled and translated by Katherine Plummer, author of "The Shogun's Reluctant Ambassadors: Japanese Sea Drifters in the North Pacific." Plummer notes in her introduction an acknowledgment to her teacher Michiko Suzuki, and that she translated from an edition rewritten in the modern Japanese language. Typescript pages photocopied and laid in, with photocopied illustrations from pages originally published with the 1790 edition. Non-paginated. Japanese handmade paper (washi) covers with hand sewn binding. 9.5 x 7 1/8 in. Inscribed by translator within lower area of initial blank page. Includes 1-page typescript English translation, "Onna Daigaku Translated," of Japanese article, photocopied and attached, which features photograph of Plummer; stapled to both is a note from Toni Stroppiana to Mary (former owner of book), dated 11/30/79.
