Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition; Second Printing. Light shelfwear to DJ and board edges. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. ; A tight, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 508 pages; The only book written by one of the actual commissioners who sat on the Warren Commission investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (other later books were written by Commission staff lawyers), congressman Ford actually broke the law at the time the book was published as he had used confidential information of the Commission in the book. During his time on the Commission, he was also acting as an informant to the FBI on the Commission's daily activities and findings. Ford was a believer in a single assassin and the "single bullet theory" from the beginning, going so far as to 'correct' a text passage in the report prior to publication, changing the wording describing Kennedy's "back wound" to read "neck wound". He was the Commissioner who attended the most testimony hearings, only Earl Warren himself could claim more time at the hearings. Ford remained a staunch defender of the Commission findings for the rest of his life. A 'must read' for any serious student of the JFK assassination. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 16945

Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 508,[4] pages. Index. Some wear and small creases to DJ edges. Gerald Ford was a member of the Warren Commission; John Stiles was then-Congressman Ford's special assistant throughout the Congressman's ten-month service on the Warren Commission. Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. (born Leslie Lynch King, Jr.) was the thirty-eighth President of the United States, serving from 1974 to 1977, and the fortieth Vice President of the United States serving from 1973 to 1974. He was the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, and became President upon Richard Nixon's resignation on August 9, 1974. Ford was the fifth U.S. President never to have been elected to that position, and the only one never to have won a national election at all. Before ascending to the vice-presidency, Ford served nearly 25 years as Representative from Michigan's 5th congressional district, eight of them as the Republican Minority Leader. At time of publication this was the only book by a member of the Warren Commission, describing not so much the well-known facts of that tragic event as the motives, the emotions, the human problems and the personal failures that ended in the death of the President. The book is his own account of the hearings themselves and of the reactions of the Commission's members to the dramatic and revealing statements of the witnesses. The spotlight focuses on such famous figures as the two Mrs. Oswalds but also on many other people who briefly emerged onto the stage of history - and who found themselves obliged to recount, in their own words, the progression of minor incidents that brought Lee Harvey Oswald to his final protest against a world that had rejected him. This book is an attempt to reveal the upbringing, the background and the career of the assassin himself, and the fascinating chain of small events, small tragedies, small revolts against authority, that characterized his life. Oswald, the rebel in search of a cause, emerges in these pages, perhaps for the first time, as a recognizable human being whose compulsive act became a national disaster. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 57241

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Signed First Edition, First Printing of this biography that lends itself one of the strangest one line descriptions in history of biography -- the biography of the assassin of a U.S. President co-written by a future U.S. President. As a member of the House of Representatives, President Gerald Ford was selected to serve on the Warren Commission investigation of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. As part of his duties, Ford was assigned to explore the biography of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. The effort resulted in this detailed study of the life of the Commission-identified Lone Gunman, who was killed before facing trial. Signed by co-authors Gerald R. Ford and John R. Stiles on the front endpaper. Red cloth, 508 pages. No dust jacket. Minimal sign of previous use. Has a tanned area on the front endpapers where a period newspaper clipping about the release of the book had been stored. Signed by Author(s). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 013611
