8vo (signed in 2s and 4s), pp. 492 + frontispiece and engraved title-page and 8 additional plates. Contemporary plum textured roan, spine and boards blocked elaborately in gilt, boards bordered with gilt rules, edges gilt. Foxed and spotted, some plates very browned, some tissue guards excised. Scratched and worn, some fading, joints cracking at ends. Modern bookplate of Ann Ridler to pastedown. An unusual American printing of Ossian - a reprint of the same publisher?s 1806 edition - earmarked on the spine as being a ?souvenir edition, 1842? although a souvenir of what is unclear. The spine decoration is somewhat reminiscent of a Scott of Edinburgh binding tableau, though decades later and blocked instead of tooled. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 4440

Zustand: Sehr gut. A new edition complete in one volume. // A PRELIMINARY DISCOURSE -- Preface -- A dissertation concerning the aera of Ossian -- A dissertation concerning the poems of Ossian -- Dr Blair's critical dissertation on the poems of Ossian -- CATH-LODA, IN THREE DUANS -- COMALA -- CARRIC-THURA -- CARTHON -- OINA-MORUL -- COLNA-DONA -- OITHONA -- CROMA -- CALTHON AND COLMAL -- THE WAR OF CAROS -- CATHLIN OF CLUTHA -- SUL-MALLA OF LUMON -- THE WAR OF INIS-THONA -- THE SONGS OF SELMA -- FINGAL, in six BOOKS -- LATHMON -- DAR-THULA // u.a.
