large 8vo. full-Morocco, intricately-tooled in gilt and blind, five raised bands, author's name on red leather spine label, slipcase. 37, (1) pages. With Artwork by Ruta Kuzmickas. Limited to 666 copies, of which this is one of 6 'presentation' copies bound thus, lettered with the initials of their recipients, and signed by the printer, Griffin Gonzales and illustrator, Ruta Kuzmickas. A fine copy in fine slipcase. Printed letterpress on Munken Polar paper by Phil Abel at Hand & Eye in London. Hand-bound in quarter-cloth with boards featuring a letterpress portrait of Irene Adler over Zerkall Ingres. Due to the closure of the Zerkall mill shortly after the announcement of this edition, and the scarcity of scarlet Ingres to begin with, this is likely the last fine press edition ever to use this storied paper. From the artists' website: A Scandal in Bohemia is the story of Irene Adler - "the woman" - who holds compromising documents over the King of Bohemia. Adler is undoubtedly the greatest female lead in the Holmes canon, and perhaps the person Sherlock himself admires most. As excited as we are about the re-telling of this story, we are doubly excited about Ruta Kuzmickas' original artwork. She has created a suite of pen-and-ink illustrations - over a dozen in total - which capture the story perfectly. Her arresting portrait of Irene on our cover is just the beginning. ARTIST NOTES: Arthur Conan Doyle needs no introduction. A Scandal in Bohemia was his first Sherlock Holmes short story and, in his own accounting, one of his greatest. Ruta Kuzmickas is a visual artist, pianist, poet, photographer, and interdisciplinary collaborator. Although she has played the piano since age six and has earned two degrees in piano performance from Rice University, her heart lies in crossovers of images, words, movement, and music. She frequently collaborates with composers, musicians, and artists. Ruta lives in Portland, Oregon. full-Morocco, intricately-tooled in gilt and blind, five raised bands, author's name on red leather spine label, slipcase. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 139355
