The content of this volume appeared originally in the New York Historical Society Quarterly in 1946; it appears here in a handsome little private-press edition distributed by the author to his friends as a Christmas greeeting. The endpapers are a woodblock print galleon pattern, the initial letter is elaborate and hand-tinted, the design is clean and attractive. It includes reproductions of many ships' carvings from public and private collections in the New York area. Edges ever so slightly rubbed, else vg in rubbed, nicked and slightly faded dj.
