Beschreibung
Octavo, 269pp. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, with a hint of internal foxing and a wormhole near the end of the page block, not approaching any text. In the scarce dust jacket, in poor condition, detached in several pieces, but presenting decently in a jacket cover. The dedication copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED warmly on the dedication page thusly: "With every good wish to Ellery Sedgwick from L. Adams Beck who is also E. Barrington. May 1926." The printed dedication reads: "I dedicate this book to Ellery Sedgwick who inspired me with the idea of writing it." A unique copy; the only signed copy of any book by Adams Beck (or any of her aliases) that we've been able to find in commerce or recent auction records. That this lone signed copy is inscribed to its dedicatee suggests that Beck was an infrequent signer. Sedgwick, for his part, was an editor at The Atlantic Monthly and several other periodicals, perhaps best known for his introduction of the young Ernest Hemingway to the American public (the short story "Fifty Grand," which he included in the July 1927 edition of The Atlantic Monthly).
