Accompanying this copy is the original corrected proof sheets for the prospectus of this book, with a copy of the final prospectus (6 pages). The proof sheets include: Walter Hamady's original hand-drawn designs for the prospectus, comprising the full sequence of revisions, each one annotated by the printer, documenting the process from the first sketch to the setting copy. Both the proof sheets and the book itself are in fine condition. Illustrated by Arthur Thrall and printed by Walter Hamady. Bound in beautifully produced marblized paper, with hand made papers, with the typically fine letterpress design customary to the Perishable Press. Walter Hamady (1940-2019) was an American artist, book designer, papermaker, poet and teacher. He is especially known for his innovative efforts in letterpress printing, bookbinding, and papermaking exemplified in the productions of The Perishable Press Limited and the Shadwell Papermill, founded by Hamady in the mid-1960s. In 1966, Hamady joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he taught papermaking, letterpress printing, and bookbinding for more than three decades.
