Two unique copies of these expansive travel works about Scandinavia and Lapland, likely undated pre-publication copies.Both written by Sir Arthur de Capell Brooke, a nineteenth-century English baronet and avid traveller.A Winter in Lapland contains the author's bookplate to the front pastedown, and his cancelled signature to the front free-endpaper.Travels Through Sweden, Norway, and Finmark, to The North Cape was published by J. Rodwell in 1823. It was written with the goal of introducing British travellers to the northern regions of Europe, and describes a journey from London to Stockholm, then onto the Christiania, Drontheim, Overgaard, the North Cape, and more. Including twenty-two engraved plates, two of which are in colour, and eleven in-text vignettes. Collated and complete.A Winter in Lapland and Sweden, with Various Observations Relating to Finmark and its Inhabitants; Made During a Residence at Hammerfest, Near the North Cape, was published by John Murray in 1827. It narrates the author's travels in these northern regions of Europe during the winter, when there is little to no sunlight. Including twenty-two engraved plates and eight in-text vignettes. Collated and complete.Unique copies of these works previously belonging to the author. Uniformly bound in blue cloth. Rebacked, with the original cloth laid down to the spine. Externally, sound, with some light bumping to the extremities and shelf wear to the boards. A few light marks to the boards, and a few small instances of paint to the front board of 'A Winter in Lapland. Author's bookplate to the front pastedown and author's cancelled signature to the front free-endpaper of 'A Winter in Lapland'. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. A few instances of spotting to the pages, particularly to the first and last few pages of each volume, the plates, and the pages opposite the plates, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
