First edition. First edition. Limited to 250 copies. This copy designated "Presentation Copy" and signed by Lawton Kennedy, the publisher and Dale Morgan. This is number 97. Half calf and tan buckram, 341 pp., illustrations, 3 maps (large folding map). Beautiful color plates by Charles Bodmer. The result of two decades of research, Morgan considered this book his most important single historical work. A brilliantly edited compilation of primary source material, this important work reveals much about Ashley's Missouri Fur Company and his role in the fur trade after selling out to Jedediah Smith, David E. Jackson, and William Sublette. Material includes letters, newspaper transcripts, and Ashley's recently identified exploration diary from 1825. An exceptionally fine bright copy in original slipcase. Highly recommended. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 51275
