Small 8vo folios on japon ancien (one edge of each folio deckle, others cut, pages 16.6 x 13.6 cm, wraps 16.8 x 14.7 cm, chemise 17 x 15 cm), loose as issued in heavy Montval wraps covered with Japanese tissue printed on front with title in red, board chemise covered with putty-colored laid paper printed with title in red on spine, publisher's board slipcase covered in black laid (overall 17.8 x 15.4 x 2 cm). Example 50 of 100 and XX numbered copies (no distinction; total edition 135, inclusive of 15 hors commerce), full-page hors-text frontispiece engraving 15 x 12 cm by Picasso, unsigned, with burin and drypoint in black and colors, the justification page signed by Picasso in pencil. Collates 9 ff., comprising [1 f.] front and rear, inserted within folds of wraps, and 7 further ff.: 1 f. (frontispiece first leaf verso facing title second leaf recto, glassine spacer); 1 f. (half-title first leaf recto, text commencing second leaf recto at p. 11), 3 ff. text (pp. [13]-[24], concluding with date "1947"), [1 f.], 1 f. (justification first leaf recto, denominated "EXEMPLAIRE 50" and signed "Picasso" in pencil, publisher's credits second leaf recto). Typography by Imprimerie Union, Paris; engraving printed by Georges Leblanc. In fine original condition, saving only negligible scuffing on slipcase.
