Small octavo, typed letter signed "W.E.B. Du Bois" and dated October 10, 1924, on "The Crisis" letterhead. Du Bois wrote this letter to the dean of Indiana State University. "Sir: In the catalog of Fisk University appears the name of Charles T. Cook and it stated that he studied or took a degree at the Indiana State Normal School. Will you confirm or deny this? When was he a student at your institution, what work did he do, and what degree did he receive? Mr. Cook is from Kentucky and a graduate of the Kentucky State Normal School (Du Bois added in his hand "year of 1899"). I shall be very much obliged for any information -----" (Apparently, Charles T. Cook, 1861-1944, was the onetime pastor of the Fairview Church of Christ, in Indiana).
