CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Covers are bright and clean. Interior pages are clean and tight, with slight swelling of bulk from the added material inserted. Unclipped DJ is near fine with light rubbing on edges of spine and corners; now in Mylar sleeve. Very nice, bright copy in complete and lightly rubbed DJ.
CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: J. Marvin Hunter compiled and wrote the descriptive biographical sketches accompanying the photographs from the Noah Rose collection. First edition with attached limitation slip from Hunter, signed by him, Noah Rose and the book artist, Warren Hunter. This publication of Hunter's biographical descriptions and the reproduction of Rose's extensive collection of rare photographs of outlaws and gunmen, resulted in the publication of one of the most important works of the gunfighter era of the West. While any copy of the limitation edition is scarce, this copy with its added material is unique and of historical value.
ADDED LETTERS, PHOTOS, MANUSCRIPT NOTES: Two typed, signed letters on Frontier Time Museum letterhead from J. Marvin Hunter with separate inscribed note, along with the original receipt and mailing envelopes to former collector. Original Photographs: Original portrait photographs of William and Zoe Tilghman. With her manuscript note on reverse of Wm. Tilghman portrait and her autograph on reverse of her own; with a typed presentation note from Z.A.T. (Zoe Tilghman) to former collector. Manuscript Notes: Inked notes on paper from Eugene Carlton Sampson (E.C.S.). According to the penciled note from former owner, Mr. Sampson ?worked as a railway mail clerk at the time of Judge Parker?s court and who stayed at Fort Smith at the end of his route. Mr. Sampson went to Montana where he surveyed the Crow Indian Agency + Custer Battlefield for the U.S. Gov?t. He was my good friend for several years. (signed) Jerome Peltier?. The written notes are tipped in at the pages relating to Frank James, Calamity Jane, George Malledon the Hangman, and three named U.S. Marshalls who tracked and killed the Ned Christy gang. Printed Material Inserted: Photo post card of Henry Starr and friends, related magazine articles on other characters, printed card from Fred Lambert of Cimarron NM with promotional material on Lambert?s book, and other notes and printed sheets.
