First edition, volume 5, number 3, spring 1945, prints works by John Frederick Nims, Richard Eberhart, Oscar Williams, and Maude Phelps Hutchins. A presentation copy, inscribed by Hutchins to Philip C. Jessup: "For Phil, Something light to read before going to bed. Maude," beside her play "The Marriage of Toto," on the front cover. The recipient, US diplomat Jessup, who served as a judge on the International Court of Justice at The Hague, was credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. Hutchins, an acclaimed artist, authored "Diagrammatics" (1932) and the coming-of-age novel "Victorine" (1959). Jessup and Hutchins were Connecticut neighbors. A wonderful presentation copy.
