Beschreibung
First Edition. Walter Heller's copy, with his stamp on front endpaper, "Please Return to Walter W. Heller." Heller was a leading American economist, a University of Minnesota professor and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors under Kennedy and Johnson. Galbraith was probably the best known economist in the world during his lifetime. In The Affluent Society, his most famous book, Galbraith coined the phrase "the conventional wisdom," and argued for increased government spending on public projects and social programs, which no doubt influenced Heller to propose the "war on poverty" program to LBJ in 1963. Galbraith and Heller were good friends, both Keynesians and close advisors to JFK and LBJ, but they disagreed sharply over Heller's historic tax cut in 1964, widely credited with fostering the economic boom of the sixties. About fine in dustjacket with yellow background uniformly faded on spine panel, else very good, with shallow chipping and wear at spine ends, price-clipped. Signed by Galbraith on laid in publisher's slip. Under "With the compliments of the author," Galbraith has crossed out "the author" and signed it "Ken Galbraith.". Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 5385
