Small 8vo. Dark blue cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 102pp. Near fine/ very good. Jacket mildly edgeworn, with a few tiny edge chips and spine slightly age toned; toned area to front endpaper from long-ago newsprint contact. Quite tight and nice first edition of the poet's second book, signed by him large and bold in black ink on inner flyleaf, below which he adds "Oxford, 1934" -- after college Engle was a Rhodes Scholar at Merton College, Oxford from 1933 to 1936. The famed Iowa poet/educator/critic/novelist (1908-91) is best known as long-time director of the renowned Iowa Writers' Workshop and as co-founder of the University of Iowa's International Writing Program.
