INSCRIBED by the author in blue ink to fly-leaf: 'To Humphrey Payer, | from his old friend | the author | A.E. Hodgkin | June 1953.' Also with a manuscript letter on a single sheet of blue note paper passing the book on to a third party. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine. Top edge red. With the typographic dust-jacket titled in red and green, and priced at 35s. A loose type-written leaf to preliminaries listing some ancient statutes from Oxford University about the use of bows. Toning to edges, otherwise a clean copy. A touch of sunning to cloth extremities. Jacket toned, with moderate wear to edges, and some substantial chips to head and tail of spine. Very good.
