FIRST PRINTING of UK First Edition. Original blue cloth, black title patch spine with silver lettering. Included with this book is a postcard mailed from the Base Camp during the expedition. This card has a b/w photo of Dhaulagiri on the front side and on the address side has the signatures (hand-signed, not printed) of team members Kurt Diemberger (summiter), Ernst Forrer (summiter), Peter Diener (summiter), Albin Schelbert (summiter), Max Eiselin (team leader and author of this book), Jerzy Hajdukiewicz, an autograph in Nepali (prossibly that of liaison officer Min Bahadur Sherchan) & a Sherpa finger print (probably that of Sirdar Ang Dawa) = all four European first ascent summiters plus a Sherpa who was likely one of the two that summited on the first ascent plus the team leader who is the author of this book. The book is in nice condition with clean covers, no rubbing, old owner name penned to top corner of FFEP otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, tight binding. The original dust jacket has small loss at spine corners, 15mm tear lower front, 5mm tear lower rear, price-clipped front flap corner. The multi-signed expedition postcard has rubbing light edge rubbing, small scuff in sky of image side with loss of coloring, good strong signatures that are not fading, clean. The book measures 235mm tall x 155mm, and has 159 pages, 38 b/w photos, 5 color plates, 2 maps. Official account by the leader of the expedition of the first ascent of Dhaulagiri (8167m) in 1960.
