Beschreibung
Stated First American Edition. Signed and inscribed by the author on the blank first front end paper. The inscription reads 'With best wishes to Marian and Graham Patmore from the Authoress. Rhoda Tanner Doubleday. 1953.' Marian Patmore was a fashion photographer. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are rather clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. There is a scuff and small tear at the top edge of the front cover with a little crease just below it on the front cover. There's also a crease just off the top edge of the spine and at the bottom edge of the spine. The top page edge has a fair amount of dust staining, however it did not make its way onto the actual pages. The spine has a slight to moderate forward lean, but the book is solidly bound from cover to cover. I didn't see any instances of a crack or space between any of the facing pages. Both covers are tightly bound. The interior of the book is in very nice shape. The pages are very clean. I went through them a number of times without finding any conspicuous soiling. I saw one small dark spot and the blank margin of one page, and there are probably a handful or so of other tiny spots in total over the 665 pages of text. The inside covers and blank end papers (including the signed page), have some light amber foxing. None of it carries over onto any other page in the book. I also saw a few instances where there was a little bit of print overrun, nothing significant. There are a few dozen consecutive pages with a tiny crease at the very tip of the top corner (just showing up on one side of the page). Later on there is a very mild semi-crease at the top corners of a good number of pages, not a hard crease, just the kind you see when there might be a little bump and it reverberates through the pages. At the end of the book there is a section of photographs (quite a lot of them). It's titled Scrap Book Photographs. The paper there is glossy. These pages are very clean too. They don't have any foxing. There is a very tiny impression/crease at the top corner in this section, likely the result of a little bump. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It's held up reasonably well, taking into account that the book was published in 1947. It has small losses at the top edges of the spine and adjacent to the spine on the front cover. There is some rubbing on the spine as well. There is only light soiling on the front cover and spine. On the rear cover there is dust staining off the top edge. The flaps are in solid shape. They have some toning at their margins. There's a tiny tear off the bottom edge of the front flap. Both of the top corners are clipped, so the price is not present. I've had the jacket in a fitted protective cover for all the years that I've owned the book. From the front flap of the jacket: 'Mrs. Doubleday, a product of the old South, wafts us along on her magic carpet to all the fascinating habitats of the international smart-set. London, India, Scotland, Poland, Paris and the Riviera all are painted enchantingly for those of us who must live in the reflected glory and vicarious thrills of Rhoda Tanner Doubleday. Mrs. Doubleday's scintillating experiences are an expose of life as we would all like to live it. With gripping revelations of contacts and associations which have a bearing on world affairs today. "Atlantic Between" is a very personal narrative which brings the reader into exciting intimate contact with such vivid personalities as Winston Churchill, Lord Halifax, H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Their Majesties The King and Queen of England, H. M. Queen Mary, and The Duke of Windsor.'. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 003635
