An excellent association copy of the debut novel by Kops, a dramatist, memoirist, poet and novelist whose work often focussed on the East End of London and its Jewish community. The author's amusing and affectionate full-page inscription is to the highly influential and well-regarded publisher, and occasional essayist, Tom Maschler, written at the end of his relatively short tenure at MacGibbon & Kee. Maschler would go on to become head of Jonathan Cape for many years, and was one of the key founders of the Booker Prize. Jacket with minor rubbing to extremities, but overall a very good example.
